A few weeks ago, I attended the Skin Awareness Month get-together by Galderma (the pharmaceutical company behind Cetaphil & Biluma). There was a panel consisting of dermatologists & creators, where we were educated about skin circadian rhythm, reformulated cetaphil products & more.

Let’s talk about Cetaphil

Cetaphil is a globally renowned brand that’s been around for 75 years! They’re also the the number 1 Dermatologist prescribed brand in many countries. Their first product, the Gentle Skin Cleanser was formulated by a pharmacist in 1947 & today their range has expanded to include face & body products., baby care as well as sun protection. Their goal remains the same – to formulate gentle & effective products that strengthen & protect even the most sensitive skin. Cetaphil products now have a new look & an even better formula, they have upgraded their formulation by adding the goodness of Glycerin to  improve Hydration, Niacinamide for Brightening and Panthenol for moisturizing effect.

My Cetaphil Day + Night Routine

I have sensitive skin with acne issues that leans oily most of the year (but is dryer in winter). I have been on a very simple CTM + sun protection routine.

I cleanse with the Oily Skin Cleanser (for Combination to Oily Sensitive skin) which true to it’s name is gentle & non-stripping; a great product if you have a weakened skin moisture barrier.

Next, I tone with the Brightness Refresh toner, which is Non-Sticky, refreshing after feel & fragrance-free.

For the daytime, I follow up with their Moisturising Lotion (for normal to combination sensitive skin) & of course Cetaphil Sun SFP 50+, a lightweight gel sunscreen with broad-spectrum UV protection.

For the nighttime, it’s the same cleanser and toner, but I follow it up with the Bright Healthy Radiance night cream which reveals radiant glowing skin, every morning.

It’s been working very well for my skin & I intend to stick to this for a while.

All about Skin Circadian Rhythm & Biluma

Biluma is a brand from Galderma for anyone that wants to maintain healthy & bright skin throughout their lives. It is a premium, science based range & all products are formulated to be used based on our skin circadian rhythm.

Most of us have heard of our circadian rhythm with regards to our sleep patterns but did you know that it also makes a big difference to our skin?

Skin functions such as temperature & pH balance vary a lot depending on the time of day, and Biluma harnesses that knowledge to create products that will work well with your skin’s natural functions to nourish, brighten, rejuvenate & protect.

The importance of cleansers is echoed in the myriad of options available on the market. Of course, not all of them are made equal. Depending on the needs of your skin, a certain type of facial cleanser will work well, while others will cause more problems than they’re purported to solve. 

Following is a list of 7 types of facial cleansers and some pointers on how to find the best one for your skin.

Gel

As the name suggests, these types of cleansers are clear with a gel-like consistency. They are generally designed for deep cleansing, which makes them suitable for unclogging pores and ridding your skin of excess oil. Their antiseptic and exfoliating properties make gels an effective weapon against acne-causing bacteria.

Cream

These thick, creamy solutions are typically loaded with moisturizing ingredients such as botanical oils. Cream cleaners are gentle, offering a purifying solution that doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils. This makes them suitable for dry and sensitive skin types. How to Choose the Right Type of Cleanser

First and foremost is your skin type. Is it oily, dry, sensitive, normal or a combination? There are many easy ways to determine what kind of skin you have. 

For instance, sensitive skin is prone to irritation and easily turns red after shaving or cleansing, while normal skin is characterized by an even tone and the lack of dryness or oil. Knowing that, you can identify a suitable cleanser depending on whether your skin needs a detox, hydration or balancing out.

Today’s post is going to focus on serums. What they are, why you should be using them & when you should be using them. I’m also partnering with skincare brand Dot & Key to introduce their newest range of serums to you.

What is a Serum? Lets Talk Basics

A serum is a lightweight skincare product that you use after cleansing, but before moisturising your skin.

Serums are in some ways quite similar to moisturisers but are definitely not designed to take their place. They are usually formulated without the emollient ingredients in moisturiser, but with a higher concentration of active ingredients.

Traditional moisturisers, whether cream or gel based, are primarily designed to keep your skin hydrated. They usually also have active ingredients meant to target your skincare concerns, but may not penetrate your skin as well due to the presence of the emollient ingredients. These are usually thicker / heavier as they are meant to provide & lock in moisture, but can sometimes block the more active ingredients from working effectively.

Serums are lightweight & there’s one for every concern you might face. Their exact function varies based on the ingredients used (we’ll get into that soon) but the mainly serums work to delivered super powered doses of active ingredients deep into your skin without being heavy, so the ingredients have a better chance of showing results.

It’s part the reasons serums can be a pricier product as well. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t affordable options too that are very effective.

The finally serum I tried, this contains extracts of Kakadu Plum & Acerola Cherry. Vitamin C is a powerful ingredient that can deliver a whole bouquet of benefits to your skin like correcting dullness, dark spots & premature ageing. One noticeable difference I experienced was that it really sped up the fading of my acne scars.

They also have a fourth new serum, the Dot & Key Collagen Restorative Time Reverse Retinol Serum. Retinol as an ingredient has been getting a lot of buzz for it’s delaying the traditional signs of ageing, this is definitely something you can look into if you’re in your late twenties or older.

It can be quite frustrating to wait endlessly for the hair to grow. We are going to help you identify what is the right brush for your specific hair type.

Dry or damaged hair has to be treated cautiously. The rough, porous texture needs to be treated delicately with the right brush. In this instance, look for a brush with rubber tipped bristles. With these types of bristles, any tangled hair can be smoothed out without having to be pulled or tugged too aggressively.

If your hair is lacking moisture and its sheen is reduced, making it appear frizzy and dull this likely means you have dry hair. Nevertheless, there is some hope here if you do use the right brush. Boar bristle brushes assist in uniformly distributing the natural oils from your scalp completely through your hair. This will help your hair in retaining some moisture and give it that added natural shine.

Oily hair tends to lack volume, remain flat and often stay greasy even after shampooing. In order to avoid this, just like for dry hair, you can use a boar bristle brush. Nine years ago, I started writing about beauty as a new & eager consumer.

Though it’s been almost a decade since, it’s still one of my favorite topics to review & write about. The beauty space in India might have started small, but it’s expanding at such a quick pace & global brands are definitely taking notice.

Bologna Fiere, one of the leading International exhibition organizer and UBM India, India’s leading  B2B exhibitions organizer recently joined hands  to launch COSMOPROF INDIA, the new event for the International beauty community. It happened on 10 and 11 September 2018 at the Sahara Star Hotel, Mumbai. As a beauty influencer, Cosmoprof invited me to witness the event first hand; it was quite enlightening to see the beauty industry from a whole new perspective.

As this was Cosmoprof’s first foray into India (they hold regular trade shows in Bologna, Las Vegas and Hong Kong), it was a preview event not only for the entire Indian beauty business community, but for the international beauty industry as well.

In addition to the expo the show they also held ‘Cosmotalks’ — a series of seminars & demos focusing on key issues of the beauty sector by renowned industry players. 

Beauty Finds at Cosmoprof

Along with suppliers, & manufacturers, a lot of beauty brands exhibited at Cosmoprof India – both Indian & International. I got to try international brands (like multiple K-Beauty brands, there was a whole block!) that aren’t officially available here but hopefully will be soon.

Among Indian brands, along with the familiar faces (many of which I’ve already covered on this blog), I also found some new ones, sharing a few of the most interesting brands below.

I was attracted to the COLAB dry shampoo display because of the fun, colorful variants, but only later after I went online did I discover that it’s a bit of a cult product!& turns out it’a a bit of a cult product. Other than the cute packaging & fragrances, COLAB seems to be one of the only invisible dry shampoos out there that doesn’t leave that pesky white residue. It’s now available online in India.

The bright neon & marquee lights drove me to visit Bollyglow cosmetics, a very new cosmetics brand that was just days old in the Indian market. They have a variety of fun lip products, lashes & sheet masks sourced from around the world, just for Indian skin. They’re also available online (I’d recommend checking out the fun desi names their lashes have).

I recently did an insta review of their bronze metallic liquid lipstick & I’ll be trying out more Bollyglow soon…
