Tech | Testing the Phicomm Passion 660

I used to be obsessed with gadgets, phones & cameras specifically. I tracked every single new entrant on the market, compared features & prices; basically all of my friends & family came to me for advise whenever they wanted to purchase a new handset. I ever wrote a little for a popular Indian gadget blog for a bit.

But that was years ago, before the era of smartphones (wow do I feel old!) My work includes a lot of social media & if I quantify the time I spend on the internet, I definitely use my phone a lot more than my computer; & that’s saying something!

I don’t keep track of every new phone that releases, rather I prefer to stick to what works well for me. I recently got the chance to test the newly launched phone from the Chinese brand Phicomm. The Phicomm Passion 660 comes packed with a 2GB RAM, a full HD display, 13 mega pixel rear camera & a 5 mega pixel front camera.

When choosing a phone, although good functionality plays the most important part, I definitely give some weight to the looks of it as well. First of all, I’m going to be staring into it for a lot of my waking hours so it better be designed well. And secondly, as a fashion blogger I wouldn’t want to style a really nice outfit for a day out & then pull out an eyesore of a phone from my bag.

The first thing I noticed about the Phicomm Passion is that its ridiculously light. Can you believe it weight only 110gms? It (thankfully!) looks pretty great too, the edges are finished with metal while the back is matte – so no fingerprints!

The phone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. While I’m currently using iOS, I’m quite familiar with Android as both my parents use it & I have helped them set it up initially. The phone was very easy to set up & I was downloading my apps in no time.

While I own two cameras that I use on a regular basis, my phone camera is very important to me – it’s where I take selfies with my #fotd (face of the day), live tweets interesting events with photos & of course share pictures of my lunch
The front camera on the Passion 660 is undoubtedly better than my iPhone 5 front camera, it takes detailed but flattering selfies. Oh & it’s also wide angle so it makes it great for group selfies or just self portraits showing a little more of your surroundings! The front camera works excellent in well lit situations & even has some nifty features like quick auto focus, anti shake & burst mode. It doesn’t fare as well at night or in low light situations, but still pretty good.

I’m a bit of an app fiend but while testing this I just downloaded my top few apps- twitter, instagram, periscope, vscocam & amazon. I was really impressed with how soon I could edit my photos in vscocam, the powerful processor really shines through.

And I cannot talk about any phone without mentioning battery life. Truth be told, I’ve gotten quite used to a really shitty battery on my iPhone 5 & have taken to lugging around a massive power bank everywhere.

I took a chance on the Phicomm Passion & left my home without a power bank. During the day I used the camera, tweeted, instagrammed, referred to maps once (I swear I cannot go anywhere without using maps!) & checked my email a couple of times. Even then the battery lasted 10 hours, which I thought was quite impressive.

The phone comes with 16GB internal storage & a micro SD card slot, through which you can expand the storage by up to 64GB!

I didn’t really know what to expect while testing the Phicomm Passion 660 but I must say it packs quite a punch especially at the price range. It’s available for ₹10,999 on Amazon India. If you are looking for a mid range smart phone I would definitely recommend it.

The Colossal Liner is a life saver! It gives quick, precise and easy application and stays for 12 hours, it is an essential makeup product for every girl.

The Colossal Kohl has introduced three new colorful variants, Crushed Emerald, Jewelled Jade and Smoked Silver. It is the perfect kohl as it lines like a kajal and defines like a liner.

The Colossal Liner glides on very smoothly & gives an intense black line that dries sort of matte. The felt tip is long & quite firm with a well defined tip that handles well & makes it very easy for even beginners to get the perfect cateye, now it’s so easy to draw one on! I do however have quite oily lids & that, coupled with Mumbai’s hot, humid & sticky weather makes it difficult for any liner to stay in place for long. The long-wearing smudge proof claims didn’t stay true for me, at least as I wore it one morning & when I came back that evening the liner had mostly disappeared leaving a faint, black smudge in it’s place (at least it doesn’t cause racoon eyes!) I can’t say I’m surprised as a lot of liners have suffered the same fate with me, even really high ends ones (Makeup Forever has fared even worse). If you don’t have oily lids or problems of makeup smudging on you too easily, you can give this a try! I will stick to the Maybelline Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner which is the only one that stays intact for me even after a long day!

The Colossal Kohl in Jewelled Jade is one of the most beautiful colored kohls I’ve seen! It’s a lovely deep green & a wonderful alternative to black kohl in your waterline. Deep Greens compliment dark brown skin tones wonderfully & this stayed wonderfully & didn’t smudge even after a long day. I’ve started reaching for this every time I put on makeup, love the subtle pop of color it gives – summery but not too bold or crazy

In the pictures below, I’m wearing the Colossal Liner on my eyelid, the Kohl in my waterline & of course my favorite The Colossal Volum’ Mascara on my lashes.

Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 | Reliance Footprint presents Sailex

As you might know if you follow me on social media, I attended Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 last week. While I didn’t attend that many shows, one that I was really looking forward to was the Sailex.

Sailex showcased his stylish collection of luxurious but affordable resortwear presented by Reliance Footprint at Jabong Stage during Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015. The designer focused on both men and women’s resort wear incorporating a relaxed yet tailored feel to each piece. Inspired by his trademark design and vibe of his previous collections; the silhouettes consisted of flirty skirts, stylish dresses, gowns, shorts, jumpsuits, maxis, jackets and tops.

Shades of blush pink, periwinkle blue, olive green and grey dominated the colour palette. Versatile fabrics like cotton, linen, organza, chiffon and satin were carefully cut and balanced out with elegant embellishments like fish hook detailing, prints and subtle texturing. Intriguingly placed buttons at unexpected places added an element of surprise and were further accentuated with simple, clean cuts.

Shows at fashion week usually include ridiculously high heels but I loved all the shoes featured in the show. The sandals & jellies by Reliance Footprint were all flats & some of the models held them in their hands & walked bare feet down the ramp, I thought it gave off such an easy breezy vibe, made me want to take a walk on the beach right then & there!

The showstopper was Vani Kapoor star of ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ who walked the runway in a lovely strapless pale blue gown adorned by floral prints. I loved the Sailex Show on the whole, I though the collection was gorgeous while still being easy & wearable.

Fashion | KOOVS Spring Summer 2015 Press Day

I’ve mentioned time & again that KOOVS is one of my favorite places to shop, so going to their press days is always ridiculously exciting for me because I get to see what’s in store for the upcoming season. I snapped some pictures during their last press day a few months (with very different hair) ago but they sort of slipped under my radar until now.

But since we’re very much into Spring Summer & a lot of these styles are up on the website I thought now would be the perfect time to share these photos with you.

KOOVS is well known for the big name European high street brands they stock like Warehouse, Oasis, AX Paris & while I do love them for making those brands accessible, my favorite brand on their website is their own label. On trend stuff that doesn’t break the bank will always get my vote.

I went to the press day wearing a lot of KOOVS already, but decided to try on some of my faves from the upcoming collection instead of just looking at them. And I feel in love, so I’ve been pretty much stalking the webiste for the past 3 months (no jokes) to see when my favorite pieces come up so I could nab them before they sell out. I bought the cape featured above a couple of months ago (& you’ll be seeing it in a fashion video VERY soon) & I just ordered a modified form of that jumpsuit last night – fingers crossed it comes in time for fashion week!

KOOVS is really bringing their shoe game this season (as always). I’ve seen some flats I really like, but the floral cutout white heels were what I fell in love with & really *had* to have! You might’ve seen them in this vlog.

I also got to try on some very fairy-like hair charms by Charmsies which you just iron onto your hair & some lovely gold flash tattoos by Lulu DK (which I didn’t get a good picture of, ugh).

KOOVS always excites me & even though I’m finally satisfied, having bought everything that really caught my eye during press day, I know that I’ll probably place about five more orders before the season is done!

YouTube #DearMe Campaign + Contest Details!

In celebration of International Women’s Day (on the 8th of March), YouTube launched #DearMe, a global initiative to inspire & empower young girls everywhere. As a YouTuber I was given an extremely simple brief – to make a video with a message to my younger, teenage self, so I set my camera on the tripod, sat on the couch & just talked. It’s definitely the most personal video I’ve made until now.
My teen years were definitely not easy… I went through all of the sadness, isolation, angst & then some. What I can definitely say is that I’ve felt much more at peace (with my surroundings and myself) since I’ve entered my twenties, so I shared some advise that I think would’ve made my teen years easier, & if you’re at that age & going through a tough time, I hope some of it can help you too.
My #DearMe video ended up being featured on the YouTube Spotlight channel, along with 24 other women like Felicia Day, Lilly Singh aka Superwoman (who I actually met at YouTube Fan Fest last year), Grace Helbig, etc. I know it seems like I’m namedropping but it’s just because I’m so incredibly starstruck & honored to be in the same video as these lovely women.
