#SendNoods – Where to go when you’re craving ramen in Mumbai

I feel like it’s been forever since I checked in with you all. Sure, there have been posts… but we haven’t just chatted in a while. 2019 has been exciting so far – I’ve been on a few trips! Saw a new country. Created a bunch of videos that I’m quite proud of (one of them went sorta viral recently!)

Oh & I turned 27. That was a big one, or at least it felt big? Every birthday after 25 feels big, I guess. But I spent it in Goa with family & cake, so that was nice. A quick little two paragraph update on the last few months. I’ll be spending the rest of April playing catch up. And now, back to the noodles.

There’s something you may or may not know about me – I love noodles; I’m bordering obsessive about them. I take cheesy photos eating noodles, I follow the #noodleworship hashtag on instagram & no matter where in the world we are, if there are noodles on the menu, I will try them.

A couple of weeks ago, we were invited to Hello Guppy in Mumbai to for the noodle fest. I’d been there once before, but we only tried the sushi & edamame. Needless to say, I was excited.

Can I take a second to talk about the décor? An authentic Japanese restaurant brings to mind a certain kind of aesthetic. But Hello Guppy is less minimal & staid, more playful kawaii speakeasy!

We started off with a cocktail, sake of course. The Nippon Cooler is perfect for summer day drinking.

I got the miso chashu ramen with pork, mom got dry ramen with chicken (all of the trappings that come in a ramen bowl, minus broth). We also got some udon noodles.

They were good noodles. Now I’m not going to pretend to be some kind of expert, my experience with Japanese cuisine is still limited. But the portion was hearty, the broth was creamy & the pork + eggs were both the perfect texture. I vlogged that day too, if you’d like to see video of that perfect bowl.

The Hello Guppy Noodle Fest is on till the end of April. If you can’t make it this month, most of the dishes are on the permanent menu, but if you’re a true noodle aficionado, you won’t want to miss the special dishes that are available for a limited time only.

Blogging about one of the most delightful lunch experiences I’ve had in the city.

I’ll be the first to admit that it’s been a long time since I last blogged about eating out in Mumbai. I guess I’ve been feeling a little bit uninspired on that front. Now don’t get me wrong, there have been many nice meals. Many delicious dishes that tasted great & satisfied me quite a bit. But nothing special enough to write home about, you know?

An Introduction to The Quarter

The Quarter opened late last year at Mumbai’s iconic Royal Opera House in Charni Road. It’s an area of Mumbai that I was completely unfamiliar with, so I was pretty eager to check it out.

Quick online searches talk mostly about LIVE at The Quarter, the 1950s style jazz bar that opens at 6PM & hosts live performances every evening. However, The Quarter is unique in a way that it has four distinct ‘sections’ – other than LIVE, there’s also DINE – their alfresco dining area, CAFE – a bright & airy all day cafe & DRINK – the intimate, grand but understated all day bar situated above the cafe.

We went to the Quarter on a weekday, mid afternoon & were seated at the drink level. They have a reasonably large menu, & are better known for their small plates (small plates = quarter plates, get it?). We were there to check out The Quarter Plate festival, more on that later.

Drinks

Since we were going for lunch with a few things planned after, we opted for all non alcoholic drinks (though they do have an extensive & very diverse spirit menu).

All drinks at the quarter are served with steel or bamboo straws, it’s always nice to see restaurants & cafés choose more sustainable options.

The Virgin Mojito was a refreshing citrus drink with freshly pounded basil. I enjoyed my ginger beer because it reminded me of the EGB Ginger Beer I got mildly addicted to on my last visit to Sri Lanka. The Quarter’s version was slightly less sweet, which I do see as a pro. For our second round, we got a hibiscus sangria & a dry lavender soda. It’s not easy to find lavender based drinks in the city, & this was just sublime! I can’t describe it too well because I don’t have much basis for comparison, except that it was good. It’s one drink I’d definitely recommend if you find yourself at The Quarter.

The Quarter has many options in their small plate menu, for vegetarians & meat eaters & pescatarians too! We opted for two veg & two seafood dishes.

Vegetarian

We tried the Sabudana Bombas, (literally Sabudana bombs, a spanish inspired dish with a desi twist) which was stuffed with raw banana, on a tomato based gravy on the recommendation of our server. This was definitely quite unique & I did enjoy it.

We also ordered the black hummus – which gets it’s name & slightly darker hue from black beans & sesame. Hummus rarely disappoints – this one was no exception. It was served with some taboulleh & deep fried pockets.

Seafood

Even though The Quarter has some very tempting red meat options, for our second round of quarter plates, we opted for seafood.

We got some seared tiger prawns with basil pesto and chaat masala, and salmon on ricotta gnocchi with herb butter.

Both of them were absolutely amazing but I have to give a special mention to the salmon, which was absolute sublime. It was cooked just right, the asparagus & gnocchi complimented it perfectly – add buttery sauce & some micro greens on top & the whole dish was superlative. Easily the best prepared salmon I’ve ever eaten & I order salmon whenever I see it on the menu anywhere.

Dessert

And finally, we shared a dessert – warm bread pudding with roasted bananas & bourbon ice cream. A perfect dessert to end a perfect meal.

In Summation

I absolutely loved my meal experience at The Quarter.

I really enjoyed the small plates concept (similar to Spanish tapas) because as someone who loves food but has a smaller appetite, I usually can’t explore much of a restaurant’s menu (unless it’s a special tasting menu, which is rare). Here, I could easily do two plates without feeling in the least bit stuffed. Smaller plates are great for sharing & you can try a lot of different things in the same meal. It also keeps prices lower than full portions, which is great when you’re not sure if you’ll like the dish (though I doubt it would happen, in this case).

Every single dish I had was amazing, even the Sabudana, which I didn’t think I would like. The flavours are well balanced – English / French / Spanish dishes many of which had uniquely desi twists. Even if I try hard to be critical, I can’t fault anything – the ambience, food & even pricing was all pretty great. Despite being at The Royal Opera House it has a chilled out vibe, which means you can still go in casual clothes & dine in a relaxed way. It’s not exactly visible from the road (you enter through the Opera House gate) which gives makes it feel like something of hidden treasure. Great for dates, or just casual catch ups!

The Quarter Plate Festival

The Quarter is hosting The Quarter Plate Festival until the 8th of August (coming Wednesday) which offers discounted prices on their small plates. If you have time this weekend or the first part of next week, there’s no better time to check out the place. If you can’t make it now, go later. But go! I enthusiastically recommend it, I can’t even remember the last time I had such a memorable, superlative dining experienced (can you tell I’m still sort of on a great lunch high, even though a day & a half has passed?) Oh & happy weekend, hope you have a good one! x

I’ve been sharing my favorite places to eat in Bangkok here on the blog, & I couldn’t do this series without mentioning one of my absolute favorites – Sukishi!

Sukishi was a place I discovered completely by chance at about this time last year, on my first solo trip to Bangkok. Of course I’ve made two trips since & no trip of mine is complete without visiting this place.

Sukishi Korean Charcoal Grill & Buffet

I was at Siam Discovery mall in the middle of a marathon solo shopping session (the best kind, IMO) & of course mid way through I was tired & hungry. So I headed to the top floor of the mall, which is almost exclusively food outlets. There must be at least 20 different restaurants there, along with a food court with many, many more stalls / kiosks selling different cuisines.

That’s when I ended up noticing Sukishi, which is at a fairly prominent location when you take the escalators up (it’s pretty close to Moomin Café, which I also blogged about).

The place is really really large & always pretty empty… which is definitely not the best for their business (guess there are too many competing places?) but you do get a really calm & peaceful dining experience because of it.

Now let’s get to the best part about this place… the menu! This place has the largest menu with pages upon pages of Korean & Japanese food. There’s salads, rice, ramen, seafood & of course different cuts of meat for barbecuing. It’s also one of the few places I’ve seen Kimbap (which is a Korean dish kinda similar to sushi). There’s also sushi but I didn’t have a very good look at that section because there are two large restaurants on the same floor that have only sushi, I’d rather look at the rarer dishes. There’s also a separate vegetarian section (I’ve had quite a few people bemoan the lack of veggie options in Thailand).

There’s also multiple pages of drinks (hot & cold) & many desserts. But I always prefer savoury food & end up filling up on those with no space for dessert.

The photos below are from our third trip there. We got ebi (shrimp) tempura, dad got a seafood pizza, mom got beef salad – forgot to photograph, but it’s in the vlog. Also berry & lychee slushes all round, of course.

Our spread at Sukishi from our previous trip. I got Bimbimbap (Korean mixed with veggies & minced pork) along with the ‘set’ that had a bunch of delicious sides & hot green tea. Mom got a salad & smoothie.

The large menu can be somewhat overwhelming (stressful, even? Talk about being spoilt for choice) so they usually have some specials, (picked out from the same menu) in veggie, meat, & seafood options at reduced prices.

The only niggle I have with the place is the language barrier. Thailand is somewhat notorious for not being English friendly but Bangkok has a lot of expats & most businesses are getting better at communicating with non-Thai people. Not Sukishi though. The first time I was there, I had a minor question about what ebi was – sadly not even one person in the big restaurant speaks even the tiniest bit of English, so I dropped the question & I just communicated with smiles & gestures. The menu is in both English & Thai, so I can manage & will continue to go there, but if you have any questions about menu items or any dietary restrictions you’d like to discuss, & you don’t know Thai – you’re fresh out of luck.

Nonetheless I still love this place for quality of food, variety, & pricing. It’s a great places for even larger groups & families (they don’t serve alcohol).

Sukishi Korean Charcoal Grill & Buffet, 403 อาคาร Siam Center Rama I Rd, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330, Thailand

This is a chain restaurant & there are a few around Bangkok, including one at CentralWorld (Google Maps should be useful) although I’ve only been to the one above.

I hope this food series has whet your appetite for eating out in Bangkok. If you live there or just love visiting (like me!) I’d love your favorite foodie recommendations in the comments below.

One of many reason why I love Bangkok is the variety of restaurants & cafés in the city. Not only are you spoilt for choice with all of the world’s cuisines on offer, there are so many kawaii themed cafés in the city that I could probably visit a different one every day for & still not see all of them for a good few months!

There are cat & dog cafés, junkyard & vintage themed one as well as so many dedicated to cartoons & plushes. Most of these not only have colorful décor but also fun menus keeping in mind what the place is dedicated to.

The Siam block of malls (Siam Paragon, Siam Center & Siam Discovery) is one of my favorite places to be in Bangkok because it’s easily accessible by BTS & it has everything. I do the bulk of my high street & luxe shopping there & it’s the one place I recommend whenever anyone asks. Like any retail destination, it also has a bunch of places to eat, from common chains like Starbucks to more unique ones like Mr Jones’ Orphanage. But the one that caught my eye had to be Bangkok’s very first Moomin Café.

Moomin Café at Siam Center

The Moomins are a beloved family of fairy tale creatures from Finland that have been around since the 1940’s – they have their own comic strip, a series of books & even a whole amusement park dedicated to them.

The cafe at Siam Center opened up in April 2016. I first saw it during my trip there in October of the same year, but didn’t end up actually visiting until Feb ’17.

The cafe is filled with giant plushes of many of the characters from the Moomins that occupy entire seats. You’re totally free to handle & hug them & of course take a bunch of selfies!

The menu at the café isn’t too large but there are a decent amount of savoury & sweet items as well as cold & hot drinks.

I had the Hot Matcha (Japanese green tea) Latte & Moominmama’s Pancake, a fluffy stack of pancakes served with fruits, ice cream, whipped cream & a bunch of sliced almonds.

Mom (aka crazy salad lady) had to stay on brand – so she went for the Shrimp Salad – a few large tempura shrimp on a bed of fresh veggies.

On our second visit there we had to repeat the salad & latte. Definitely favorites (the pancakes were good too but not as unique).

Other than the twee atmosphere, cute decor & friendly staff, we really liked all of the Moomin accents in the menu items, whether it was the stamp on the pancakes or the art on the latte. Even the sugar was Moomin branded!

The café is also connected to a Moomin store where you can get everything Moomin themed, from cheap keychains & other knick knacks to more expensive collector’s merchandise (like beautiful dinnerwear!)

If you like Moomin (or just everything cute) & are in Bangkok, I’d definitely recommend Moomin Café. It’s open daily from 10:30 AM to 9:30 PM. You can read a bit more about it in this official blog post.

Even though Mumbai is a large metropolis, I’ve always bemoaned the lack of truly multicultural cuisine in Mumbai. There are tons of themed placed – Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French but most of the dishes are heavily adapted to suit local tastes. It makes good business sense, but you never truly get authentic world food.

This place was different. Sure, it was charming. But the food was really authentic too! We stuck to desserts on our visit, & I had the best half and half mint choco chip macarons & banoffee pie ever.

As luck would have it, the place sadly closed a couple of months after. These photos have been lying on my computer for a few years – it’s high time I shared them here, even if it’s just for a e s t h e t i c s.

Is there any restaurant or eatery you’ve been to just once, but you have fond (or unique) memories of? I definitely fondly remember places I’ve eaten at while travelling & sometimes I look them up years later to see if they’re still around. x

Bangkok is one of my favorite cities in the entire world, it’s a place I keep going back to for so many reasons. I love the culture & shopping but one of my favorite things to do there is eat! It’s a foodie’s paradise with delicious food available at every corner, whether it’s a fancy restaurant to a street food stall. Not only is Thai food itself delicious but there’s also very easy access to different Asian cuisines that aren’t easy to get here in Mumbai. I thought I’d do a mini series on some of my favorite little places to eat, starting of course with my favorite place for Ice Cream!

Swensen’s at Robinsons, Bangkrak

Swensen’s started as an American Ice Cream brand back in the 40s, but in the 21st century it has more locations in Asia than anywhere else. My first time at one of their outlets was the one at Robinsons in Bangkrak (near the river) over eight years ago! I’ve gone back to Bangkok thrice since then & I’ve almost always gone back to the same outlet.

The décor of the place is just like any fast food join with lots of hints of Americana, like the branded tiffany lamps hanging from the ceiling.

Unlike in India, it is not common to be offered free drinking water at Bangkok restaurants & you usually have to purchase water separately if you want. I think Swensen’s is the only place I’ve been to that serves all it’s customers water, which is quite nice.

Swensen’s focusses on just ice cream based desserts & there’s no savoury food available (there’s a McDonalds & KFC as well as a food court in the same mall!) There are tons of different ice cream varieties in many different sizes – they actually have sundaes that are best shared by 4 & even 6 people!

While the staples are year round, they also have a rotating menu of fruit based sundaes, depending on what fruit is in season. This was from our Jan / Feb trip so of course there were strawberries.

I was in the mood for something unique so I tried this golden sundae that actually had sweet corn & jackfruit in it!

Eating sundaes on a daily basis isn’t the healthiest thing, but this place is definitely great for occasional indulgences. All of the flavours I’ve tried have worked very well (including a ricecream sundae which is ice cream with… rice!) the ingredients are fresh, the service is great & it’s fairly pocket friendly too.

If you’re into Ice Cream this is definitely a place to visit when in Bangkok. I think there must be at least 10 outlets around the city so you can use google maps to find one that’s close to you!

You can browse the Bangkok category on my blog for more about this lovely city. More of my favorite places to eat in Bangkok will be coming up soon. x

Irani restaurants are indelible part of Mumbai’s history. They’re peppered all around South Bombay – most of them have been around since the 19th century, but their numbers have since dwindled considerable (there’s some useful background on wikipedia). Since I live in the suburbs, I haven’t visited too many, although I did blog about visiting Picadilly Restaurant in Colaba back in 2013 (now rebranded as Persepolis).

Britannia & Co. in Fort had been on my wishlist since forever, but since it’s in Ballard Estate (the old business district) I had just never got around to going there. Recently mom & I had a boring errand to run in the area & it was the perfect reason to finally visit for lunch!

Simple, iconic signage to know that you’re in the right spot.

Britannia & Co. keeps it simple – it’s open for just four hours daily, from noon to four (mainly catering to the local office goers) & only accepts cash payments.

The main floor was packed when we arrived there, luckily they also have a mezzanine & we got to inaugurate it for the day. It did offer a great bird’s eye view of the going-on’s in Britannia & Co.

Irani Restaurants & Cafés are devoid of many modern comforts that many eateries offer- there are no air conditioners, just fans (although some do have a separate AC room with a higher priced menu). You will get a kind of old world hospitality that’s unmatched with any more modern place, though.

First order of business of business – get some drinks! Britannia is one of the only restaurants in Mumbai to serve Pallonji’s, a homegrown Indian soft drink brand that’s over 150 years old (yes, I did my research).

We got raspberry & ice cream soda, both were so good! I wish these flavours were more easily available.

The menu is conscise but still offers a good deal of variety although I hardly had to look at it because I had just one thing on my mind – their iconic Berry Pulao, a rice dish with lots of caramelised onion & sweet / sour dried berries. It’s available with prawn, chicken, mutton, kheema (mutton mince), veg & egg options – we chose to try the mutton & it was indescribably yummy (I’m not the most articulate when it comes to writing about food!)

Almost as famous as the restaurant itself, is it’s 93 year old owner, Mr Boman Kohinoor. Even though his son looks after the running of the place, he’s still always around, cheerfully greeting everyone & bragging about his age (he want to break the world record for oldest man alive!)

I asked if I could take a photo of him & he agreed as long as he took a photo with us, too! It was just so lovely meeting him.

We walked out of there with happy hearts & full stomach (& a doggy bag, because we are lightweights when it comes to eating!)

Speaking of doggy bags, I was so delighted to see the folks at the restaurant let a stray dog in the area take shelter near the cash counter. Most people seem to react to stray animals with suspicious, fear & disgust. It’s rare to see sensitivity & kindness like this, it warmed the cockles of my heart.

Eating at a place like Britannia & Co. is not just about the food (even though it was amazing!) It feels kind of like an exercise in history or anthropology, it’s like taking a step back into the Bombay of decades ago, very little seems to have changed over the years & I hope it stays that way!

Britannia & Co., Wakefield House, 11 Sprott Road, 16 Ballard Estate, Fort, Mumbai

If you’d like to know more about the Mumbai’s Irani restaurants, you can check out this NYT editorial from 2009 – A Taste of Persia, and Old Bombay. irani chai, mumbai is also a really great blog talking about almost all the Irani Cafés in Bombay although it hasn’t been updated much in the last few years.

Ending this with a picture of my mom being super cute in the tree lined streets of Ballard Estate.

I didn’t intend for this post to be this long. I really didn’t want this to just be about the pictures because the story is so much more important. If you live in Mumbai or are visiting, I’d highly recommend taking the time to visit this restaurant or one of many other historic Irani cafés in the city! x

As a traveller, it’s easy to fall into patterns & go to the same *favorite* destinations over & over. So I try my very best to keep exploring new places. A couple of months ago I was invited by Saj Resorts to check out their beautiful property, Saj On The Mountain in Mahabaleshwar. I’d been to a couple of hill stations (both in Maharashtra & the rest of India) but had never been to Mahabaleshwar, so I was super excited to experience it for myself!

So early one Friday morning, a bunch of us bloggers + vloggers got on a bus to start the (approximately) 6 hour journey by road. We started on the Mumbai-Pune expressway & then got on the road to Panchgani-Mahabaleswar. The last set of ghats can be kind of brutal, but I’m a heavy sleeper & blissfully slept through it all (missing some amazing views in the process, unfortunately).

Where We Stayed | Saj on the Mountain

When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with refreshing welcome drinks & then got to see our rooms. Saj on the Mountain has 78 rooms on the property, divided into three categories. We stayed in a cottage, which is the largest & most luxurious of the three. The room is really large, (one double bed & two single beds) it’s especially designed to comfortably accommodate a whole family. I remember being forced to stay in a separate room when travelling with my parents because hotel rooms usually only accomodate two, so I think family rooms are a really nice option. They also come with a private back garden, which is enclosed for privacy – my mom loved relaxing on the swing during our time there. I did make a video (which you can watch below), which also includes a bit of our journey, a room tour & some other highlights from the trip, doing my best to showcase over two days in less than two minutes.

The resort is on the side of a hill, with the reception being on a lower level & the rest of the rooms higher up. It also has two restaurants, a couple of different kids play areas, a game room, Vyom spa, a pool & more.

Plus, there’s so much of pretty landscaping & flowers, that is was fun to get mom to pose by these purple ones.

What We Ate | Dining at the Resort ️

All food served at Saj on the Mountain is vegetarian, & they have two restaurants & one bar / gastropub.
Fasal is where we enjoyed our first meal, this delicious thali with some chilled buttermilk.

And here are some of the evening snacks they arranged for us all in the outdoor area we started our treasure hunt & zorbing.

I don’t have photographs from Wilson’s Cafe, but I loved the ambience there. I didn’t really enjoy the pastas too much but breakfasts were superb!

Finally, there’s Darwin pub, where we had a little sundowner on our first night. The chefs at Saj customise the menu according to the season & since we were there in peak strawberry season, strawberries were incorporated in interesting ways, like these delicious strawberry cosmopolitans.

The staff at the resort are also happy to arrange open air snacks / dinner for groups & we even had this great open air dinner on our last night there, complete with a bonfire & a fantastic telescope through which we got to see close super close ups of the moon!

What We Did | Activities

Most of our downtime was spent within the resort itself, there was so much to do that I could stay within the premises without being bored!

Along with the standard pool & play area mentioned above & a game room with table tennis & more there were even some great activities like zorbing (where you basically roll around in this giant plastic bubble). There were also multiple trained people around us while we tried our hands at it, to demonstrate & see that we were doing everything safely, which is much needed when trying any adventure sports!

Where We Went | Places to See ️

Mahabaleshwar is an established tourist destination & does have a set of places you can visit. We did visit a couple of very historic temples (which I’d only recommend if you’re religious or interested in history).

We also went to see Lodwick point – it did offer nice views but was crowded & slightly underwhelming. You can also walk to Wilson Point from there.

Finally we finished our tour with a visit to Panchgani market, which is always bustling & a great place to pick up local snacks, chocolate or shop for Mapro goodies – I’d highly recommend their syrups & I did enjoy their Mazaana brand of chocolates.

Strawberry Picking

People flock to Hill Stations in India mainly for the increased foliage & cooler climes – but Mahabaleshwar also has another (famous!) specialty – strawberries. Indeed, it’s said that 85% of strawberries in India are produced there, & there’s a strawberry field / garden at every corner.

Needless to say, if you are you’re heading to Mahabaleshwar during strawberry season, this is one activity you shouldn’t miss – which is primarily why I classified this as a separate activity!

Aren’t those the juiciest, most luscious looking strawberries you’ve seen?

If you’re in a hurry you can just buy some from many vendors like this, who set up beside major roads.

I also put together another small video of our strawberry picking, & now Strawberry Fields Forever will play in my head… forever.

I really enjoyed my stay at Saj on the Mountain, I’d love to thanks the folks at Saj Resort & DeTales Communication for being really gracious hosts.

Saj on the Mountain is a very versatile space – great for couple, families, groups of friends etc. I think they have enough facilities to keep every kind of traveller comfortable & happy. It’s also a great place to have a party or even an intimate destination wedding!

Mom & I just spent most of our downtime sleeping, the wonderful air & cool climate just makes you want to wind down & relax. We did have trouble getting cell phone reception & got almost no mobile internet, also the resort doesn’t have wifi. It’s a great place to shut off from the outside world, but if those are necessities, this might not be the place for you.

You can find out more about Saj Resort Mahabaleshwar (Saj on the Mountain) & book on their website, they also have a second property, Saj on the Lake at Malshej Ghat, near Pune.

Mahabaleshwar is a fairly convenient weekend getaway option from Mumbai, you can drive or even take a bus from Mumbai (& it’s even closer to visit if you’re in Pune!) If you’re planning a trip to Mahabaleshwar anytime soon, I hope this post gave you some ideas! Fell free to share your own experience or tips in the comments below. x

Hauz Khas village is one of my favorite places in Delhi. Sure it’s very hipster & all round pretentious, but I love the vibe. Also, I find it astonishing how so many stores (many of them quite high end) & maybe 50 different restaurants & cafés can be crammed into such a small & untidy area.

A little over one year ago, I went to Delhi for a work trip & decided to extend it into a mini vacay by staying in my favorite borough. Visiting different cafés (& blogging about them) was one of my favorite things to do while there so I knew that I wanted to repeat the activity without repeating any of the places. But I digress, let’s get on with it…

The Tea Room by Blossom Kochhar

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that I’m crazy about tea. When I mentioned to Bhumika that I was going to be staying at HKV, she quickly recommended the (then very new) tea room by Blossom Kochhar. HKV on the whole can be quite a maze, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the Blossom Kochhar store was maybe just 12 metres away from my airbnb.

If you’re unfamiliar with Blossom Kochhar – she’s famous for her Aroma Magic line of skin + body care products. On the ground floor of the building you’ll find her store. I swear by her under eye gel, it’s very affordable & so good. Availability of her products seems quite limited outside Delhi, so I did go a bit crazy in there & even filmed a haul video with everything I purchased.

The first floor has the spalon (spa + salon). Go one floor higher & you’ll reach the tea room.

Also worth noting – most of the buildings in HKV are older & don’t have lifts. I wouldn’t have cared at all about it, except that I sprained my ankle in the HKV parking lot & ascending or descending a staircase sent shooting pain through my foot. I loved the chilled out vibe of the café as soon as I entered.

Old style switchboards, rustic whitewashed walls, fairy lights & linen curtains – it was such a pretty sight. The menu is all vegetarian with a lot of vegan options too. As it had just been open for a while, there wasn’t too much to choose from (they seem to have expanded their menu a lot since then).

Mom got a Banana & Coffee shake (the coffee was strong!) while I went with a relaxing warm cup of almond milk, infused with lavender & honey. We weren’t too hungry then so we got a quiche to go. The prices were fairly reasonable too.
Here’s a picture of me looking surly on the way back down… that area of the village is just beside the deer park, & we had just seen some monkeys!

All in all, though I was disappointed with the food selection, I still really liked the vibe of the place! If you’re in the area, it’s a lovely place to go get some healthy food, if you’re catching up with friends or even some alone time.

The Tea Room from Blossom Kocchar, Part One, Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi

We also went to the famous Coast Café by OGAAN for dinner & were met with overpriced, mediocre food & snooty staff. Most definitely would not recommend!

I’ve previous written about two other cute places in HKV – Elma’s Bakery (which has since moved to a new location within the village itself) & Kunzum Travel Café. x
