It can be quite frustrating to wait endlessly for the hair to grow. Dry or damaged hair has to be treated cautiously. The rough, porous texture needs to be treated delicately with the right brush. In this instance, look for a brush with rubber tipped bristles. With these types of bristles, any tangled hair can be smoothed out without having to be pulled or tugged too aggressively.

If your hair is lacking moisture and its sheen is reduced, making it appear frizzy and dull this likely means you have dry hair. Nevertheless, there is some hope here if you do use the right brush. Boar bristle brushes assist in uniformly distributing the natural oils from your scalp completely through your hair. This will help your hair in retaining some moisture and give it that added natural shine.

Oily hair tends to lack volume, remain flat and often stay greasy even after shampooing. In order to avoid this, just like for dry hair, you can use a boar bristle brush. Here, the bristles also help in the even redistribution of natural oils, allowing no collection on the roots. This type of hair can also be prone to breakage and brushes with natural bristles should be considered. This will help in gently detangling your hair. Another advantage is that natural or mixed bristles will provide the best grip on your hair which allows everything to stay in place during a blowout.

For those of you with long hair, traditionally, the round brush has staked its claim as being the best tool for a blowout. Round brushes are available with different sizes of barrels. The rule here is, the longer the hair, the bigger the barrel of your brush needs to be. The bigger barrel aids in glamorously volumising hair. A brush that does not have a big enough barrel could end up just curling your hair tips and not achieve the desired fullness that you are looking for.

If you have short hair, it can be important to create volume and sleekness but this must be achieved without curling the hair too much. So, for a short hair blowout, be on the lookout for a brush that has a narrower barrel and wider teeth to achieve your desired look.

Keep in mind your hair type and length when you select a blowout hairbrush to get the best look.

Changing my hair is one of the easiest ways to change my look – it’s been around three years since I first started colouring my hair & I’ve had it red, purple, black, blue & I’m probably forgetting a few. I’ve also experimented with hair rebonding & bleaching now and then. At any given week, I also heat style & use a variety of haircare and styling products.

I often see myths such that heat styling, hair sprays etc. can lead to hair fall. I’ve found those to be largely untrue. But there is no doubt that regular colouring, chemical treatments and heat styling does damage my hair, making it coarser & just more prone to breakage.

So even though I enjoy experimenting with my hair, I found myself having to take breaks from too much colouring etc. just to prevent further damage & breakage. Damage care shampoos only work to some extent because after all when your hair protein isn’t in good shape, there is very little an external product can do! I began looking at ways to holistically improve the quality of my hair so that it just grows stronger & better.

One thing that will definitely improve the quality of your hair is adding the right kind of nutritions & proteins to your diet & eating healthier. But it’s not always possible to get them in necessary doses from food.

I’m always looking for ways to improve the texture of my hair & care for it. Oiling one’s hair with a scalp massage (champi maalish!) is quite an integral part self care here in India. Oils infused with herbs or flowers are quite common. Recently, Hair & Care introduced first of it’s kind fruit oils in two variants.

The GREEN fruit oil has orange, anaar and strawberry extracts.

Oranges serve as a natural conditioner. Every part of the fruit has several benefits including the pulp, juice and even the peel.
Anaar (pomegranate) helps in getting rid of dull hair. It contains essential fatty acids and punicic acid that gives shine to your hair.
Strawberries moisturises, adds shine and smoothens the hair.

The ORANGE fruit oil has olive, mosambi and green apple extracts.

Olives helps in sealing the moisture and protecting the keratin in the hair due to its high content of Vitamin A, E and antioxidants.
Mosambi helps in the treatment of split ends and dandruff,
Green apple helps in promoting hair growth.

The oils are each available in four sizes (50, 100, 200 & 300 ml) & come in plastic bottles with secure, flip top caps.

Directions for Use: Before wash deeply massage into scalp for extra nutrition. After wash dab a few drops for manageable hair.

While the fruit oils aren’t what I would call a dry oil, they aren’t overtly heavy, greasy or oily either. They do have a fruity fragrance which smells so pleasant.

I’ve actively used these oils for around a month now. I tend to prefer using them a few hours before I wash my hair. I apply the oil super generously on my hair, then do a little scalp massage – other than being super relaxing it also promotes circulation, which will improve the health of your scalp & in turn the texture of your hair. If lucky enough to have a mom do this for you (like mine!) then you’re golden.

Sometimes I like putting on oil just before going to sleep & washing my hair the next morning. I feel this not only gives the product more time to act, but I always have the best sleep with oil on!

I’ve been aiming to use oil at least twice a week. Sometimes if I’m busy, just once. Oils don’t show instant results but you’ll usually reap the benefits of adding them to your regimen. I do think this has improved the mids & ends of my hair, which were previously bleached & hence pretty damaged.

I’m always really bad at self care, but I’m trying to get better. I’ve really enjoyed using these – they smell great, are non greasy & very pocket friendly. You can buy them online here – green fruit oil & orange fruit oil.

My Experience

Whenever I try anything new, my first impressions are based on the design & I really like how this looks – the mostly white design with silver & transparent accents makes it look quite chic.

I travel a lot, so I immediately loved how compact this dryer was – most hotel rooms have dryers, but they’re pretty weak & take forever to actually dry my thick hair. Once, I was so exasperated that I ended up buying a very pricey salon grade dryer – sounds good right? Except, nobody told me how heavy it would be or that it would tire out my hands within two minutes of holding it. Lesson learnt; leave the salon hair dryers to the actually hairstyling professionals. I was still on the lookout, for some practical yet easy to use.

The Syska Trendsetter dryer is a respectable 1000W, so it has a good amount of power & airflow without ever getting too hot or too noisy. The power cord is long which is always handy as my plug point isn’t near the mirror & I can easily use this without resorting to an extension box.

The dryer works efficiently & dries my short but thick hair within just about five minutes. I’ve used to for regularly for around three weeks the heat is just right to leave my hair sleek & shiny without causing damage (although I always use a heat protectant before using hot tools).

You get just the dryer in the box, there are no extra nozzles or attachments. The transparent end works reasonably well as a concentrator, but there is no separate diffuser. I’ve never actually used a diffuser though, as it works better on volumising finer hair, I think this dryer is just perfect for everyday (or every wash) use when I’m at home or elsewhere.

In Conclusion

I’ve really liked using this dryer, it helps keep my hair looking good without damage, is quick & easy to use, compact to travel with (because who has extra luggage space anyway?)

The Syska Trendsetter HD1605 Hair Dryer is priced really affordably at just ₹ 1,150 although you can get it even cheaper online. If you’re in the market for a new dryer, I would definitely recommend checking this one out!

I’ve had short hair for the last few years now, & a lot of people assume that short hair is easy to manage, but I’ve found that to be quite a myth. My hair is thick, unruly & has a tendency to frizz out badly in humid climates. Sure, short hair has a short drying time but otherwise I’d say that it’s often even more challenging than long hair, because I can’t tie it up if I’m having a bad hair day! So I have to spend time & effort coaxing it into submission, mostly with a hair iron.

Despite being a beauty blogger, I’m also a self professed lazy girl, & I don’t like to have to spend more than 10 minutes each on hair & makeup before getting out of the house on most days. I’m constantly looking for products that help me streamline my routine & keep me looking good without putting in much effort. And I’m glad to say that the Wella EIMI range has been helping me with just that…

Perfect Me is called a lightweight BB lotion for your hair & I couldn’t think of a better description. Just like a foundation or BB cream that you use for your makeup base, this is the perfect base for your hair. It works like a leave in lotion, it nourishes & protects your hair without weighing it down in the least.

Hair mousse is one of those things that I never used much – partially because I didn’t like the texture & also because I found it difficult to work with in the past. However this is definitely different from the (few) mousses I’ve used in the past because it’s super lightweight. You need to spray it towards your roots when your hair is still damp, & once blowdried it gives an amazing amount of volume. You can even use this on days when you just want a bit root drama but are still going with a more natural, messy look & air-drying your hair (in this case, use a hair brush to lift the hair on your root area while it’s drying, for best results).

This is not something I use everyday, but a wonderful thing to reach for when I want a bit of extra drama in the root area, because flat roots are not a good look on me.

Wella EIMI Dry Me

I suffer from roots that get oily fast, so dry shampoo is already a regular part of my arsenal. I don’t wash my hair daily, so I can just spray some of this on second day hair (again concentrating on the roots) & my hair looks fresh as this absorbs all the oiliness. There’s nothing much to say other than this is very easy to use, just like the other products & does it’s job excellently!

Another point I’d like to add is that all these products smell sublime, which is just a bonus! A majority of people’s hairstyling routines is very simple – oil your hair, shampoo & condition it & then some after wash leave in creme or oil. The Wella Professionals EIMI range brings professional products, mostly only used by hairstylists to every person. I’m definitely looking forward to trying a few more.

As a blogger, it’s part of my job to know (& try) all new releases in the world of beauty. But I don’t remember the last time I’ve been this excited about a new release in the world of haircare. Garnier recently launched Ultra Blends, their all new range of shampoos & conditioners for different hair types.

The new range is called Garnier Ultra Blends, it gets it’s name from the fact that each of the five variants are a blend of different natural ingredients, meant to target different hair issues. Each of the five variants have a shampoo & conditioner, are available in different sizes, paraben free, & very affordably priced!
On launch day, the folks at Garnier had a little space set up in the middle of High Street Phoenix (Lower Parel) that was open to everybody. The whole place had a beautiful evergreen / forest type theme (with so many flowers!) with different sections where you could explore the variants.

The bottles are bright & coloured according to the ingredients used. The shampoo bottle lids are on top while the conditioners have lids on the bottom. While using a shampoo, while the effects of it are paramount, the fragrance is really important to me too & all of these smell divine! The Royal Jelly & Lavender as well as the Henna & Blackberry were my favorites in this regard. The bottles are of course a sort of throwback to the legendary Garnier Ultra Doux (raise your hand if you remember that?) & they bring back all sorts of warm & fuzzy 90’s memories. Garnier Ultra Doux was the first ever conditioner available in India!

The brand recently brought down Wella Global Ambassador Patrick Cameron to educate 1800 hair stylists across three cities in India through grand shows where he exposed them to the various possibilities of hairstyling and his association with Wella. He believes that hairstyling is an expression of individuality and thus cannot take a back seat, he is also one of the foremost global experts when it comes to long hair! As a global ambassador for Wella Patrick has spent the last 25 years travelling the world sharing and presenting his show stopping hair styles.

During this visit to India, Patrick Cameron showcased his Modern Vintage collection with state of the art styling products from the Wella Professionals portfolio. Modern vintage takes its inspiration from the 1960’s because this era has an enduring influence in fashion, in the balance and the proportions of the way hair is dressed – you can see some of the styles above. This legacy is seen across the board from international catwalks to red carpets as well as editorial work.

I was one of few lucky bloggers who got to spend an afternoon with this genius. One of the most exciting parts was how Patrick kept guessing people’s personalities by the way they style their hair & he was spot on!
